Neither the cold nor the snow risk prevented more than fifty Secondary and High School students from ValdeSerra School making the most of three days in the Spanish capital. Madrid took the adventurers in to offer them an imporrtant cultural and recreational agenda.

On their arrival, on 7th November, they visited Faunia Park facilities where they saw a variety of animals, from every ecosystem and continent, allowing them to approach the natural diversity our planet counts on. To add to this, on the same day , our students visited the Natural Sciences Museum. The youngest were impressed with the dinosaur skeletons. These big animals continue to create an unforgettable impact with their appearance although they are only bones; in reality, human beings have never seen a real dinosaur as they became extinct tens of thousands of years before our ancestors’ appearance.

The rain on the second day did not outshine the greatness of a walk in the streets of Madrid de los Austrias which the students from Secondary 1st and 2nd did, nor did it affect the visit to the Antena3 facilities and Onda Cero by Secondary 3rd and 4th and High School. The San Miguel market was the glamorous shelter after the visit to the city centre, while the older ones received their fair share of rain when leaving the “Herrera en la Onda” live broadcast. They enjoyed not only the news studio sets, but also met well-known journalists such as Lourdes Maldonado, Susana Griso…

The students saw the very best of the paintings of El Greco, Velazquez and Goya in El Prado’s different lounges. Most of them were very impressed with the size of Las Meninas or La Maja paintings.

The culmination of this trip was an active and enjoyable recreational day in Warner Park. With a Halloween background, the students enjoyed all the attractions, always checking their backs to avoid frights from ghosts and zombies.

It has been an unforgettable experience for everybody, where comradeship, good manners and respect were ever present. As proof of this we have received congratulations from the hotel, El Prado museum, Antena 3…
